When writing content how many keywords should you optimise around?

What many people don't realize is that there isn't a set number or percentage of keywords per article needed to achieve great SEO results. From my experience, it really just depends on the subject matter and the length of the article. A few concise articles with excellent keyword distribution in their content could rank better than 10 pages of raw text without sufficient focus on specific terms. Remember that you want enough keywords to show good effort but not so many as to overwhelm your readers and make them blindingly aware they're looking at an advertisement for a product (that's clickbait). People are much more likely to stay on your website if they find what they're looking for quickly--so provide relevance more than links!
