We have an Arabic publisher website that has an English language version also. The main website link structure contains /ar/article-name and the English contains /en/article   I am thinking about removing the /ar from the main section of the website as the website is by default in Arabic and has an unnecessary layer in the link structure. What do u think?

Personally, I like keeping the language designator as part of the URL. I don't think there's much SEO impact from leaving it and, on the analytics side, it's make it easier to quickly segment the site into Arabic and English segments for reporting.
